The Great Southern wine region is the largest wine region in
Australia. In fact the Great Southern wine region is one of the
largest in the world.

Spanning 100 kilometres north to south and 150 kilometres east
to west the Great Southern includes some of the most prolific
and successful vineyards in the country from Frankland River,
Mount Barker, Porongurup, Denmark to Albany.

The Great Southern is renowned worldwide for its clean crisp
cool climate Riesling’s. Each sub-region terroir produces
distinctive examples of award winning Riesling that are vastly
different. Uniquely aromatic, Great Southern Riesling ranges from fully
styled, floral aromatics to strong citrus and lime. The cool
climate allows for a longer growing season which allows a
retention of acid that is the key to a sublime Riesling, that ages
longer producing toast and honey flavours 10, 15 and even up to
25 years cellared.

The Great Southern is also well renowned for producing some of
the best Shiraz in the country. But with a large group of young
producers in the region, clean, pristine and innovative alternative
reds are emerging. Explore some of the lessor known varietals
that are making noise among the critics as ground-breaking
winemaking that is the future of wine.
